 "Organizing the image in a traditional Indian way, they filled up the picture field with independent pockets of people, rocks, land masses, figures, swaths of cloth, some in groups, some single, some even silhouetted against the sky on the horizon. Each generated a force to send the eye recling in different directions. There is no center in this photograph, as there is none in any photograph using a characteristic Indian vision."
